Experience the Beauty of Napa Valley’s Ag Preserve
The Napa Valley that we know and love today would never have been possible without the creation of the Ag Preserve. Established in 1968 by the Napa County Board of Supervisors and the Napa County Planning Commission, the Agricultural Preserve was a way to set aside vital areas of land in the fertile valley and foothill areas of Napa County to ensure they could only be used for agricultural purposes. This ensures the land will be used to create more farms and vineyards, not urban development.
The Ag Preserve was the first of its kind in the nation and spurred a movement that has inspired similar programs throughout the United States that are designed to protect farmers and ensure the continued success of agricultural lands. Since its inception, local wine growers, and other community members have worked tirelessly to protect the beauty and integrity of protected land within the preserve, which is now one of the most popular tourism areas in California.
Fifty years after the Ag Preserve was created, it’s clear that this courageous act not only allowed Napa Valley to organically evolve into one of the best wine growing regions in the world, but it also prevented the area from becoming yet another victim of over-zealous urban development.
At the Napa Valley Marriott, we applaud the forward-thinking and progressive actions that created the Ag Preserve. As member of the Napa Valley community, our hotel is also part of the Ag Preserve and we continue to support its existence as well as other protections that ensure the beauty and bounty of Napa Valley can be enjoyed for generations to come.
